My daily struggle with Afro hair

I’ve given up on weave hairstyles now after noticing the damage they were doing to my edges and haven’t had my hair chemically relaxed for a good 10 years or so now.

I do struggle with my hair, I find it really hard to manage sometimes, it feels like it’ll never grow, and it’s at that stage where I can do nothing with it, but I’m persevering.

My edges have taken the brunt of the abuse I’ve given my hair over the years and now I’m worried they will never fully recover. I’ve tried numerous hair products to help stimulate my edges back to life, and because I’m going grey, I have to colour my hair which doesn’t help, but I’m certainly not ready to embrace my grey hair just yet. A couple of weeks ago I chopped off the heat damage on my hair (and there was alot), now I’m really trying to keep away from the straighteners too.

After getting some tips from watching numerous YouTube videos, I made a homemade hair moisturiser with shea butter, coconut oil, Jamaican black caster oil, almond oil, and argan oil.  I think I may have to reduce the quantity of the oils next time, as the mixture came out a bit greasy, but I don’t think it’s too bad for a first attempt.  Hopefully, my concoction will help my hair quality improve.  I’ll post an update in another three months.

If there are any naturalistas out there who could give me some advice on improving my natural hair I’d love to hear from you.

Ann-Marie 🙂
